Comte Armand Clos des Epeneaux

Burgundy, France

Producer Profile:

Domaine des Épeneaux owes its name as well as its raison d’être to the remarkable 5-hectare vineyard Clos des Épeneaux, which is not only one of the largest Premier Cru vineyards in Burgundy, but also one of the few that has remained under single ownership since pre-Revolutionary times.

The Clos never attained its full potential, however, until a young Canadian, Pascal Marchand, took the reins in 1985. During the following thirteen years, Pascal raised the quality level to the first rank of Burgundy. Building on this success, owner Comte Armand in 1994 began annexing additional vineyards to the expending and rejuvenated Domaine des Épeneaux. In 1989, Pascal passed the baton to another supremely talented winemaker, Benjamin Leroux, who, in 2016, was in turn succeeded by a new wunderkind, Paul Zinetti.

Today the Domaine consists of 10.12 hectares, including plots in and around Pommard, Volnay, and Auxey-Duresses. The viticulture and winemaking are entirely organic (certified by Ecocert) and conducted in strict accordance with biodynamic principles.
