Domaine Georges de Vogüé

WHO WE ARE

With roots in Chambolle reaching back to 1450, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is unquestionably one of the oldest and most distinguished estates in Burgundy. It currently comprises 12.52 hectares of some of the finest vineyards in the Côte d’Or. The Domaine rests today in the very capable hands of estate manager Jean-Luc Pépin and winemaker François Millet.

The Domaine practices lutte raisonnée, a system of vine cultivation that is essentially organic and non-interventionist.  Lutte raisonnée entails holistic and balanced viticultural management with a primary focus on microbial health of the soil and the biodiversity of the vineyard.

Generally, the carefully sorted fruit is de-stemmed and permitted a short period of pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation temperatures are regulated to remain below 32°-33°C, after which there is a period of post-fermentation maceration. The Domaine maintains a flexible policy toward new oak, generally using between 15% and 45% depending on conditions. The period of élevage varies according to the rate of the wine’s development, but generally, the wines are bottled after between 18 and 20 months aging. Fining, with egg whites or gelatin, may occasionally be used but filtration is employed only rare
